so, your website is a mess, huh?
If the last time you were able to make sense of your site can be described as “a while back”, my friend, you need a website re-design.
Let me explain. When your business starts growing (yay!) you often find yourself needing to add information, pages, photos, FAQs, and whatnot on the go. That’s simply how life works. But then, many moons later, you open your website and realise that you can no longer find anything in there because you have no clue where you’ve put it. It’s much like buying stuff for your house without ever organising what you already have. We all know how this turns out – an utter mess with plenty of gems you’re unable to find or use.
But hold on. *If you are confused by your site, how do you think your customers feel?*
They’re confused, too! And that is not helping your business. Forget about search engines and robots – you work with humans and you need them to feel at ease with your offering.
So stop messing about with miniature tidying up sessions, and *start your well thought-out, strategic website re-design to boost your business and conquer your industry*. And we’re here to make it simple.
don’t know where to start? we’ve got you!
What’s a website re-design?
In the simplest words, a website re-design is like reorganising your wardrobe. Based on where you are in your business and in life, you first need to review what you currently have, toss the old, refresh a few items, add some new ones, and organise it all in a way that will make sense moving forward.
If, for instance, your business was serving small companies for years but things are changing and now your clients are from medium or large organisations, you set up a site that makes sense for them. Just as you would re-organise your own life when you jump a level in your career.
How does it work?
You need to know that website re-designs take guts. You may have realised that the site doesn’t really serve you anymore but may still not be ready to throw the old. So it takes some mental preparation (we’ll coach through that) to be brave enough to say goodbye to the past “you”.
Once you’re ready to let go of the old and embrace the new, we’ll take you through our tried-and-tested 8-steps approach. It begins with creating the sitemap of your dreams and achieving absolute clarity of what, how, and why you will be offering to your existing and future clients. And believe it or not, with our help, your website re-design will be a fun and rewarding experience.
you don’t know what you don’t know
We have been making websites since Flash was a thing (remember it?). Yes, this is how old we are. In all fairness, though, it looked cool! But what we’re trying to say is – we’ve been making websites for a bit and boy, has it been turbulent! There are so many little things you need to know and remember.
And you probably already know this if you’re looking for some help. Rest assured – you’ve found a good place. We’ve been studying and making websites for so long now, that we’re perfectly attuned not only to the technical elements of it but to the most important factor – creating an experience your users will enjoy so much, that they’ll end up returning to you over and over again!
is it time to make your website work?
Here’s a checklist you can use to gauge if your site is everything it could be.
Well organised. A website must be easy to navigate and offer the information that your customers will need to make a purchasing decision. If they can’t find what they’re looking for, guess what! You’ll likely lose them!
In this day and age of increasing complexity, be your clients’ hero and make their lives easier. How to do that? Offer your products and services in an intuitive, no-brainer kind of way.
Clean and simple. Long gone is the time of websites with flashy neon colours, animated text, and things popping out left, right, and centre. We all need everything to be nice and tidy, so we can navigate it easily.
Give your clients a site that’s kind to the eyes and guides them through a meditation-like experience that they’ll want to come back for.
Human optimised. When you’re deciding if you want to buy something or not, you’re practically trying to understand if it will work for you and your particular circumstances. This is what you need to give your clients – honest answers to their questions and guidance on how to make the most of what you offer.
Optimise the experience for the people that you’re serving and rest assured they’ll be coming back to you.
Search Engine Optimised. If you want someone to buy from you, they’ll first need to know you exist. And how do they find it out? Because you pop up in their search results when they’re looking to solve a problem!
Search engine optimisation is not difficult, yet it is complex. If you’ve gotten the other three elements right, however, it will be a piece of cake (yum) that search engines will want a piece of.
UX, CMS, SEO, and other tech mambo-jumbo
If you’re ready to go ahead with your website re-design, this is the best time to rethink the systems you’re using and how they work for you.
If you started your business with a site based on Wix, for instance, this website re-design may be a fantastic opportunity to move away from paying for features you don’t need. It may also be a fantastic moment to re-think that black background on your site and get your UX (user experience) on point.
Don’t be intimidated by acronyms and tech talk – we’re here to translate all of that for you and make sure that you know what and why matters to you.
how we make website re-design fun and easy
We could take over your entire website re-design and do it for you, but that will remove the uniqueness of you. So we don’t approach it this way. Instead, we guide you through the process preserving and enhancing your own uniqueness.
Having done this many, many times, we’ve established a process that works like a charm, is easy to follow and clear for every stakeholder involved. So from the moment you hop on board, you’ll know what, when and why is happening.
What happens once we’re done? What if you need to add some new things to your site? Do you come to us again? You can, if you want to, but part of our process is to train you and your team on working with your new site independently!
Got more questions? Here are the answers to some.
How long does it take?
That will depend on your website and unique circumstances. In the spirit of full disclosure, our experience has shown that website re-design usually takes between 7 and 9 months.
How much does it cost?
This is another difficult question to answer. It depends on how many things will need to be refreshed, re-written, re-shot (photos & videos), if the website will be technically re-written from scratch, and many other factors. If this is something you’re considering, reach out and let’s talk – we don’t bite and we don’t charge for these initial conversations. Plus, we promise to give you our honest advice.
I have my IT team, I just need the plan
Great. We can’t help you with that. We love our work and we don’t do anything we can’t proudly sign under, so if you want to work with us, it means that we are your project owner and we guide the entire process. If that doesn’t suit your ethos, we can teach you how to do it. Head off to our WordPress Team Training page and sign up!
Do I need a re-design or an entirely new website?
That’s a head-scratcher, right? We get it. Sometimes websites become so entangled, that it feels easier to just go back to the drawing board and start from scratch. Whichever the case, we still call this a website re-design, because some elements will be transferred from the old to the new (text, photos, etc). So don’t fret, deciding what to keep and what to toss is part of our process and as promised, we’ll guide you through it!
